Can I rent a studio flat in London
without having a job?
I dont have a job yet but money saved, would people rent out a studio or 1 bedroom flat to me. Or what can I do? I am planning to come for 6 months to London from Germany looking for a job. I have lived many years in London before and I am sure to find something. In case I can't do that, what other options do I have? Yes you can save money and rent a studio flat for 6 months. I know it’s a long shot and I’ve checked out tonnes of places online but I haven’t seen anything that strikes me. I’ve got a budget of 200 quid to spend a week. I’ve lived in a few places in London over the years and have been mugged twice so I’m looking for somewhere safe and relatively close to a tube station. I want to rent studio flat in Central London for two months, should be close to tube station.
What is a studio flat for London?
Sample of a proper studio flat.
Studio flat can mean different things, however a studio flat is generally a single room for cooking, living and sleeping with its own bathroom. In London a studio flat can be:
- A flat with one main room and, usually, a small kitchen and bathroom. Also called "studio apartment".
- For Central London (Zone 1-2) a studio flat in the lower price ranges is typically one room open plan consisting of a sleeping area/living area, kitchen area/cooking facilities and bathroom facilities
- The more expensive studio flats may have separate kitchen, separate bathroom or both – (generally these will be slightly more expensive to rent.) Please note a self contained studio will mean you have all your own facilities and do not share; some less expensive studios may ask that you share particular facilities (typically WC) – these properties are however still considered to be studios by sharky landlords in the London market place. In London Zone's 3-6 as the demand is less you can get more value for your money and most studios over £120 pwk are likely to have their own separate kitchen and bathroom/shower.
- A typical bedsit, single studios, single bed intended for 1 tenant only.
- A typical bedsit, double studios, double bed intended for 2 people, generally a couple.
- A typical bedsit, twin/triple studios, 2/3 single beds intended for 2/3 people – sharers. Many studios are in Victorian converted buildings where large rooms have been converted into studios and have had kitchen & bathroom facilities added
